Homeowner Highlights
As your Commissioner of Revenue, I will provide the following services to the citizens of Powhatan County:
- Fair and equitable personal property tax assessments on your motor vehicles, recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers stored, garaged or parked in Powhatan County. I will provide personal property tax filing information, deadlines, forms, and FAQ on-line.
- Provide timely and accurate personal property tax billings, including the full benefits of the Personal Property Tax Reduction Act instituted by Governor Gilmore.
- Fair and equitable real estate tax assessments on non-commercial real estate, to ensure property is assessed at 100% of fair market value in compliance with Sections 58.1-3250 through 58.1-3389 of the Code of Virginia. There are currently over 13,950 parcels of taxable real property in Powhatan County. Current real estate tax assessments can be found on-line at www.vamanet.com.
- Promote Powhatan County Land-Use Deferral Program, which offers a deferral of a portion of the real estate taxes for qualifying properties pursuant to section 58.1-3234 of the Code Of Virginia. Powhatan County Code requires a minimum of five acres for agriculture property and twenty acres for timber to qualify for the program. I will provide Land-Use Deferral Program qualifying information, filing information, deadlines, forms, and FAQ on-line.
- Provide timely and accurate real estate tax billings in compliance with State and County Code.
- Administer the tax relief on real estate for the eligible elderly and disabled residents of Powhatan County compassionately. I will provide tax relief qualifying information, filing information, deadlines, forms, and FAQ for this program on-line.
- Provide the Board of Equalization with timely and complete information regarding assessments. I will provide notice of hearing dates and times on-line.
- Receive and process Virginia state income tax returns for Powhatan County residents.
